Google Credential Provider for Windows is a system-level authentication plug-in developed by Google LLC that replaces the conventional Windows log-in prompt with a Google Workspace sign-in flow, enabling employees to access corporate laptops, desktops, and shared workstations by entering the same Google Account credentials they already use for Gmail, Drive, Meet, and other Workspace services. Once installed, the component appears as an additional credential provider in the Windows lock screen; after a user types in a managed Google email address and password, GCPW validates the credentials against Google’s servers, creates or updates the corresponding local Windows profile, applies SSO tokens so that subsequent Google services open without further authentication, and enforces all administrative policies—such as two-factor requirements, device encryption, or session length—defined in the Google Admin console. Typical deployment scenarios include enterprises migrating from on-premise Active Directory to Google Workspace, schools issuing Chrome Education licenses yet maintaining a mixed fleet of Windows PCs, and remote teams that want password synchronization across web and OS without maintaining a separate identity provider. Because the tool is distributed as a lightweight MSI that integrates natively with Windows 10 and 11, IT administrators can roll it out silently through Group Policy, Microsoft Intune, or any MDM platform that supports Win32 apps, and can later revoke access instantly by suspending the user’s Google account. Security category; current published build 138.0.7204.26 is the first generally available release. The software is available for free on get.nero.com, with downloads provided via trusted Windows package sources (e.g. winget), always delivering the latest version, and supporting batch installation of multiple applications.
